USS Oriskany - Dive Report
USS Oriskany - Dive Report from Rob Fairall
Dive Report: USS Oriskany - Aircraft Carrier sunk as an Artificail Reef in the Gulf of Mexico
Location: Pensacola, Florida, USA
There are many reports about doing this dive stateside. Has to be said it should be on a must-do dive list. Not so much due to it’s size and/or nature but more because it was the first of many modern day natural reefs to be created. The effect that this vessel has had upon both the economy and marine world offshore of Pensacola is substantial.
It’s quite a ride out to the Oriskany but well worth it. Certified Advanced Divers will find it a great dive. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone newly certified as the weather conditions can be challenging both on and off the boat. Attractions in the water can be reached at about 30ft and most of the time Vis is great.

Stumble it!

Yes it is a great dive site. I live in Pensacola 6 months out of the year. Always looking forward to get home and to some great dives. I have been on this one 3 times and enjoy it every time. Nice to see others recognize this wonderful spot. So come on down, enjoy the dive and don’t forget we have many nice attractions on our white sand beaches including mouth watering seafood. You won’t regret it.

I have seen the program before, but I still enjoyed watching it. It was an amazing story and an amazing site, watching it sink. Would be a great dive, but I’m sure there are as good (if not better) wreck dive closer than over the “Pond”.

Hi Colin,
thanks for the comment. There are some fantastic dives closer to home and I would love a report or two from your favourites.
You can email them to me at steve@hititrunning.com and I’ll add them as a seperate report.
Cheers
